Most of the 79 big block trucks where 78 frames that had 79 bodies built on them, it's the same with motor homes.

I can’t read it well, but it looks like engine code is a “R”. This is from my ’79 Parts Manual, page INF-7.

79 were 11.75" brakes only up front.
This a fender tag from fellow members ’80 Road Runner. The VIN reads: HL29 GAB ______.
The “A” is the year code adapted from new VINs as an ’80 Model – but ALL of Chrysler VINs were still 13-digits long in 1980 – even though the industry was to make the change in 1980 to the 17-digit long VIN.
’81 (and newer) Chrysler VINs are 17-digits long.
You are mostly correct, but for whatever reason, Chrysler was late to the game.
for '75-79 B and '79-81 R-bodies.
A minor note: some of the ’75-81 B/R-bodies used the pin-type caliper and others used the slider-type brake caliper. The slider-type caliper bracket will use the FMJ brake caliper and hose without any issue. Just remove the two ½” retainer bolts and slide caliper up and off. Keep caliper suspended so caliper doesn’t hang on its hose (very hard on the hose). Change brackets/rotors, and then reattach the two ½” retainer bolts/retainers and that job is done.
The pin-type calipers are a little different story. You will also need to purchase a pair of brake calipers as well as bleed the brake system afterwards. Still doable but a tad more expensive and longer to perform the change.
There is no rhyme or reason as to which type calipers B and R-bodies received (pin or slider style) – but my experience shows the newer cars came mostly with slider-style calipers.

That's the style my '78 Cordoba had also, the pin type.
I wonder what determined the caliper type. Some specific reason or they just used what was on hand that day, or maybe what plant the car was built in? The world may never know.

I have no idea as to which one was used.
Chrysler was having money problems in ’77-78 so my guess is they used whichever one was cheaper at the time, maybe? I would guess the slider style was cheaper to produce – maybe. It might even be a vender part strike or something. Another possibility is some B’s were made in Canada – so might even been a Canadian postal dispute on getting some parts. I think we could be talking about why for a long time.
The important issue was both types were used.
The B-body slider brackets/rotors are very easy to toss onto an FMJ.
The pin type will fit but takes a bit more time and money to make fit.

okay sports fans,it looks like the cordoba is actually gonna happen.
i have a question,about these k members.
mine,is orig a slant six,but is Brand new.
i cut the fifth ave up and kept the V-8 318 mounts off that crossmember.
are those the Same mounts i could then use to drop the big block in?
