Had some scary weather this weekend.
Friday night, I got home from work at 8pm – while being “weather aware” (potential tornadic storms in area). I tried to say no with the bad weather in area and the time of movie, for Saturday afternoon would be a better pick (better prices, less weather worries) – but I lost that battle. Picked up my 12-year-old daughter at home, went to friend’s house and picked up another 12-year-old girl. Arrived downtown Oklahoma City at 9:30pm. The tornados were not going to affect us – but a cell producing strong wind and hail, was about too. After getting a bite to eat, and while in line at theater (10:15pm), the heavy rain/hail started.
Note: The movie Aladdin is almost an exact copy (99.5%) of the animated movie of same name. No need to waste your money unless you hadn’t seen the original. A good show, though. The actors didn’t look/act out of place and so forth, being placed in middle east.
Storm had already moved out of area by movie end. Took both kids back for sleepover at their house, well past midnight.
On Saturday, another wave of tornadic weather came through. After spending much of the day watching the weather and working on projects, I thought we were clear so went to bed a bit earlier than I usually do. Wife was in other room playing a computer game. Son was on a sleepover and daughter was doing . . . well, I have little idea what 12-year-old girls do at night, other than not sleep. There were some thunderstorms in area but didn’t think they were serious. About 11 pm (which is really late for a tornado), a strong wind front hit my house (reports said 80-90 MPH strait-line winds) then a freight train noise. A few seconds later the sirens went off. Wife, daughter and I started running around house like headless chickens, not knowing what to do (this time).
Turned on the TV and noticed a tornado hit El Reno, OK (about 12 miles West of me) had a tornado destroy a mobile home park, a dealership and a hotel. Funnel went back up, jumped over my house, and touched ground about 6 miles East of me, damaging a bunch of lake-front houses.
No damage to my property except for some scattered trash (neighbor’s yard?).
As of today, all is good at my campsite, except foir having 30+ inches above average rainfall, this year.
