Cams and combinations, food for thought.

I don't think the 360 came with a 4-bbl until '74 (after 340 production stopped in '73) – but could be wrong.
'73 340's and all 360's came with cast crankshafts – so would have a externally balanced balancer and flywheel – but both engines will have different balances.
If a '72-3 340 – the balancer will have 340 cast on it, so a person can take a camera and take a couple pictures around (front side) perimeter and look for the “340”.

I “think” both versions of the flywheel might also have engine size cast into it (“340” or “360” ) - but again, might be wrong. The Flywheel will be harder to determine.

My Mopar engine book says the L code 360 was a 73/74 product, there was also a 340.
 
The 360-4v was introduced in 73, but didn't start replacing the 340 in the performance models until nearly the end of 73 production. There is at least one 360-4v '73 'cuda built. Orange dual snorkle cleaners showed up on some early '74 Chargers with the 360-4v.
 
Because of emissions, I “think” the 340 didn't make it through the full year ('73) – but I have absolutely no information to prove or disprove.
I do remember the 360 was 2-bbl only until the 340 was out of production – even though both used same cylinder heads.

It could be that 340 orders were filled 360s at the end of 73 production or an early 74 got a 73 air cleaner. Ho knows?
But I've gotten curious and I'm going to find the VIN..
 
Its funny how the mind works when Its idling, today I started thinking of the cost of the three motors I have on here and the HP made. Here is what I came up with.

The Ford 455Hp $20.87 per HP
Mopar 452", 520HP $9.67 per HP*
Mopar 500", 645HP $16.15 per HP**

*This reflects what I have in the motor in todays money the cost would be more like $13.80
** Today $17.35
 
we just will not talk about hp per pound, the Ford comes in at 450 lbs or so.
 
With the talk of FI on other threads here is the intake I will be using for my little Ford. The rpm range is perfect for a street/strip motor I haven't decided on the FI yet, the shop that built this motor will be doing a shake down on the Holley Sniper setup in the next week or two.

We will have to see, the ultimate plan for this motor is boost, probably turbo.

With the talk of FI on other threads here is the intake I will be using for my little Ford. The rpm range is perfect for a street/strip motor I'm hoping to convert it to FI this summer.

What setup are you looking at?
 
FiTech and Holley Sniper are what I'm looking at now, it needs to be programmable. This stuff is changing fast so I don't see the need to be in a hurry.

Well, if you want to wait a week I'm starting the install of a Sniper unit onto my 512. Will begin on Thursday and hope to have it all finished by Friday night. I think the plan is to replace the the entire fuel system with 3/8" nickle-copper line and mount the fuel pump in front of the tank. That plastic splash shield to bolts between the tank and the diff I'm going to replace with one fabricated out of aluminum to give myself a mounting surface for the pump and filters. Don't know though - playing a lot of this by ear.
 
Take a lot of pictures and do a write up on it upon completion.
Keep track of the cost of installing with All the parts you need additionally.
Then rate it on ease of installation etc..

Will do! I'll chronicle the adventure in a project thread. I just ordered the master kit this morning and should be on track to start installing it Thursday. I found a bunch of crap that needs to be fixed first on the car though, so it might push things back.

That is how I installed my pump mark work good
 
Having found this today, I think it could be the start of a new short block. It's the first girdle I've seen that I have thought valuable.
BCR CNC MACHINED MAIN CAPS - MOPAR
I have a standered block, crank and polished and bushed rods. It will probably need a set of custom 13.0 to one pistons, I like e-85. I have a comp 6.50 lift cam with 290 degrees duration @ 50.
I've also got the converter and 4.86 gears to make it work.

Time to quit day dreaming,
Oh well............
 
We use to have E-85 here in Western NY. But the last 5-6 years I havent found anyone that carries it. Id love to build my motor for E-85. We'll all have E-15 soon enough. Maybe we will get another shot at E-85?
